Enkindle 134 – 11.27.22 – Up the Mountain

In this reflection for the first Sunday of Advent, Fr. Erik reminds us that matter what our age is, each of us can do special things to get ready for Christmas.

Climbing a mountain isn’t something that you do casually without planning, preparation and making sure that you’re ready for it. In the Bible, the mountains are often the place where people go to meet God. Advent is meant to prepare us for Christmas. This is for every one of us, old and young, each one of us. No matter what our age is, each of us can do special things to get ready for Christmas. It will look different if we’re eight years old, than if we’re 80 years old. What we do during Advent will look different if we’re a mom taking care of four kids or if we’re retired. It will look different for me as a priest than it will for a high school student. But each of us is invited to prepare our hearts to encounter the Lord in a new.
